Nyt tuntuu, että mentiin jo miinuksen puolelle ... ei, indeksit eivät ole miinusmerkkisiä, eivätkä signaalit ole alkaneet purkautua kovalevyiltä takaisin atmosfääreihin – nyt ei vaan enää kuulu juuri mitään. Onneksi ennusteissa häiriötä povataan vasta huomiseksi tai ylihuomiseksi, muuten asemien kuulumattomuudesta olisi voinut peräti huolestua.
Kokonaan kelit eivät kuitenkaan ole olleet poikki. Yöllä kuului muutama brassi, aamulla noin kymmenkunta jenkkidominanttia, päivällä oli jo rauhallisempaa. Iltapäivällä saimme kuitenkin jo pienen UT-OR –töhäyksen; KUTR-820, KXMD-970, KOUU-1290 ja KTUB-1600.
Heikot kelit kuitenkin mahdollistivat sen, että saatoimme jatkaa Amerikan markkinoille seuraavaksi bestselleriksi suunnitellun urbaanin selviytymisoppaan ”Survival of the Fattest” kirjoittamista. Ehkä haastavinta prosessissa on ollut itsensä saattaminen siihen tilavuusluokkaan, että asioita on voitu omakohtaisesti ja empirisesti kokeilla.
Ja niille, jotka aprikoivat mitä edellisessä kirjoituksessamme itsenäisyyspäivän ateriassamme nautituiksi mainitut nahkakuulat ovat – ne kuuluvat perinteisiin Lurkkien peditionruokiin; reilut pari tuntia kuivaksi keitettyjä ainoastaan lievästi mustuneita perunoita, jotka pinnaltaan ovat nahkamaisen kimmoisia ja sisältä rutikuivia ja jauhomaisia. Valmistusprosessi vie kokonaisuudessaan noin nelisen tuntia – kattilan tulee kiehua kuivaksi ainakin kolme kertaa. Nahkakuulien palaneet osat – siis ne, jotka ovat tarttuneet lähes pysyvästi kattilan sisäpintaan – voidaan hyödyntää höysteenä esimerkiksi seuraavan kerran teevettä keitettäessä.

However, those poor conditions made it possible for us to continue writing what we have planned to be the next bestseller in American market – an urban survival guide: “Survival of the Fattest”. Maybe the most challenging thing in that writing process has been getting to that size that we have been able to empirically test by ourselves all the things written in that book.
And for those who have been wondering what might have been the “leather balls” that were mentioned earlier in our National Independence Day menu: they are very traditional Lurx-pedition food. They are potatoes that are boiled dry for couple of hours so that they are only slightly blackened and that they´ll have leather-like elastic surface and very dry floury inside. The cooking process takes about four hours – the kettle must boil dry at least three times during the process. The burned parts of those leather balls – the parts that are almost permanently stuck to the inside of the kettle – can be used as a spice for example next time when you´re boiling teawater.
